The Water Civilization
Ancient Greece
Ancient Greece was a civilization belonging to a period of Greek history that lasted from the Archaic period of the 8th to 6th centuries Before Common Era (BCE) to the end of antiquity.
On this website you will learn about Ancient Greece and how water was an important part of their civilization.
Water
Water is life, and life on earth is linked to water. Our existence is dependent on water, or the lack of it, in many ways, and one could say that our whole civilization is built on the use of water.
Ancient Greek Cities
Ancient Greek cities were bustling places. Each city was a thriving centre of the arts, religion, commerce, and politics. A strong high wall encircled each city, to keep attackers and wild animals out. Inside the wall, built on top of a hill, was a fort called an acropolis. The residents built their houses close together around the foot of the acropolis for protection.
